Getting Started with The Edge | The Edge for Jewelers

Meet Your Personal Trainer

Experience has taught us that there is more to using a computer system than just having hardware and software. Every user could use a little training, tech support and some quality advice every now and then. All of which we deliver in the amounts necessary to ensure that the maximum benefits of The Edge system are realized.

A computer system can have more impact on a business than you may realize. Most jewelers see it as a device for controlling inventory, building customer databases, producing sales report, etc. They may not realize its potential for making them tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars more, so they don’t aim for that goal.

The Edge was designed to be intuitive and easy to use, so you can be productive quickly. But why drive it like a station wagon when it was built to win races? What The Edge can do for your business depends on how you use it. We’ll educate you on the business philosophies behind the software’s features – and how to use them to impact your profit and growth.

Introductory Course

This course is designed to get you off on the right foot. It’s offered free for one person from each store with the purchase of The Edge software.
You’ll receive hands-on training from excellent, knowledgeable and very patient instructors insuring that you get off to a quick and easy start. All the essentials are covered in this two-day program, available either at our Connecticut facility or as a webinar presented in four-hour sessions over four consecutive days. Both courses contain the same content; only the delivery mechanism is different. Choose the one that best meets your needs.

Advanced Course

After you are comfortable operating The Edge on a day-to-day basis, it’s time to learn how to take advantage of every profit enhancing feature. After all, this should be why you computerized in the first place. You will learn how to create a lean, dynamic, profit-producing inventory and how to keep it that way. You will also learn how to measure the effectiveness of your advertising and sales staff, to find who your top customers are, and to motivate sales performance with profit-based commissions. All the management reports are discussed in this two-day session.

On-Site Training

On-site instruction is a great way to train the entire staff – and can be more convenient and less expensive than sending them all to Connecticut. We’ll come to you with a curriculum tailored to meet your individual needs. Each of your departments will receive the training they require: sales staff, office staff, repair department and management. Every employee will learn how best to utilize The Edge based on their department’s needs, with time allotted for issues that concern them specifically.

Business Building Education

Over and above our Introductory and Advanced software training, The Edge offers additional business advice, mentoring and workshops that help you interpret the system’s reports properly and develop strategies that deliver improved results from your staff, advertising, customers and inventory.

The Edge in conjunction with the Edge Retail Academy offers three workshop/seminars annually that will help you become a better, more profitable jewelry store. These are two- and three-day programs hosted in various locations throughout the US.

The Edge Retail Academy provides one-on-one mentoring and consulting services that cover all aspects of running a successful jewelry store, from start-up to exit strategies – and everything in between. The analytics produced by the Edge Retail Academy are built on sound principles using the highest quality data extracted from The Edge software, and provide the foundation for sound business decisions. Hear What Our Customers Have to Say

I had a lot of older employees who did not like change, but once they saw what The Edge® was doing for the store they turned around. The Edge is very user friendly. At the time we installed it three employees had never used a computer in their lives. It was just one or two weeks before they felt comfortable using it.

The Inventory reports give category and vendor-specific information that allow me, at a glance, to make educated decisions on inventory levels, while providing real solutions for eliminating old inventory. The management reports are the most useful we've ever had. Thanks, Dick for the best jeweler software on the market.

The best money we’ve ever spent. When we first installed The Edge®, we took part in a two-day training session that got us up and running with none of the transitional issues you would normally expect with a new system. Since then, I’ve also gone to their seminars and learned additional ways to use the software to increase my store’s profitability. Quite simply, our business has prospered because of The Edge.

We gather as much information from our clients as they will allow. We ask for birthdays, anniversaries, e-mail addresses and things of that import. Then we use The Edge® postcard program to send mailers to clients wishing them a happy birthday or anniversary, and asking them to bring the card in to receive a discount. We also send customers thank you cards for trusting us with their jewelry and allowing us to repair it.

Our old software was complicated and non-intuitive. The Edge® simply works so much better. Entering inventory is almost fun, training the staff is a breeze, and the customers love the photos on their receipts.

We use The Edge® for many different operations. We use it to track custom work within our repair department. We use it to track what kind of volume and sales we’re doing in our repair department. We use it for our appraisal services. On the financial side, The Edge integrates so well with QuickBooks it’s as if the system has a built-in accounting module.

We would do physical inventory once a year and we would have to close our store for a week. Since it was all handwritten, we had to get our hands on every piece in the store. Since we've converted to The Edge®, it takes us four hours to do what used to take us a week.

We have always had the Geller book, but since we uploaded it into The Edge system, and began using The Edge for repair intake, the process has become so much easier. Before, it was like a guessing game. Now, we use the SKU to input repairs, and the amount is already calculated. I and my employees have been very pleased. Best of all, my profit for repairs has increased drastically.

No more guesswork. The Edge® inventory reports outline category and vendor-specific information that allow me to make educated decisions about product levels. Better yet, they provide real solutions for eliminating aging inventory. The most useful management reports I’ve ever seen. The best jeweler software on the market.

Daily reports give us up-to-date information about what’s in our inventory. If something is selling well, we can order more so we’re never out. No more disappointed customers and lost sales. More importantly, if a product isn’t moving, we can skip reordering it and move on to something else.
